Telstra got the kick up the arse they deserved!
Posted on May 30th, 2010 8 commentsBack on May 10th I exposed Telstra/Bigpond’s very poor Youtube bandwidth and how 1/3 of all Australia’s households using Telstra were having their Youtube bandwidth effectively throttled in some way compared to every other ISP in Australia.
The blog got lots of coverage and as a result Telstra contacted me (unofficially) the next day and said it would be fixed within hours.
This is of course after them being aware of it for a long time and really just not giving a shit because no one shouted loud enough. It turned out to be Telstra’s peering arrangements with Google/Youtube that meant all Youtube traffic was being streamed from overseas instead of Google’s local host here in Australia
Can you imagine the international bandwidth this was hogging?!COMPARE MY OLD RESULTS:

WITH MY NEW RESULTS:

Notice the step change in Teltra’s average a few days after them being exposed.See the full res images here:

EEVblog #89 – EEVblog Live Screwup
Posted on May 26th, 2010 12 commentsThe first Live EEVblog event – unedited. Dave short circuits his wife’s laptop and cuts the feed, proving that anything can happen live.
The audio sync is not the best, sorry, minor file conversion issues. And the last bit is supposed to be crap quality video that freezes due to the crap wireless connection. It’ll be better next time, this one was only a trial.
Sorry, no overlayed chat, it was too hard to sync the raw text with the video. The video grab got lost in the laptop confusion. Not much to see on the video, so an audio only version is also available.

The EEVblog Live Show
Posted on May 21st, 2010 34 commentsLadies and gentlemen, boys and girls, geeks and nerds, step right up for the inaugural EEVblog Live Show this Sunday the 23rd @ 2pm PDT (USA), or Monday 24th 8am Sydney EST.
It promises to be a nerderific extravaganza of biblical proportions. With pyrotechnics, dancing girls, and performing monkeys! No?, how about just Dave in the lab talking about electronics and ranting on like he normally does…
The show will be based on live viewer questions and/or whatever Dave thinks of, so be sure to log on to the chat channel during the show and throw some questions his way.
Keep’em reasonable and short please, and don’t ask for tutorials etc, they are better suited to regular edited blog episodes. I’m good at off-the-cuff opinions, so try me
At the very least you get to watch Dave make a spectacular fool of himself!
Yes, barring any technical glitches the show will be recorded and uploaded later on the blog.
Check here to RSVP and register, but you only have to register if you want to join in the live chat:
