      Don’t worry about it being long. Better to explain it and take your time (it’s fundamentals, after all) than to omit because of time and cause confusion.

      These are a great idea Dave. Most electronics tutorials I’ve seen are really formal/textbookish.. which is great, but doesn’t at all give a “feel” for what’s important in the subject.

      I’d love to see more really basic circuits analysed, I think it’d help me a lot with getting a more gut-level feel of what goes on.

      Love it.
      Don’t be afraid to explain things as basic voltage dividers and potentiometers once in a while too along with stuff like this video.

      I’m most interested in things that make sound (home made synths made of salvaged junk) so basic oscillators, filters and how to connect them to speakers, headphones, line-in etc. would be nice.

      Dave, I think you did very well on this, especially considering it’s your first in the series. I’m really happy to see so many positive comments from other people who are encouraging you to continue!

      About the time, I think the important thing is that you plan the video so you cover all of the most important material first, then add minor topics after that. If anyone gets bored and feels done, they can just stop watching as soon as they learned enough. If university students can sit through boring 1-hour lectures, I think you will be ok. :)

      I’ve seen information about multiplier circuits while reading about high-voltage power supplies (for vacuum tube plate voltages and even more fun things). Your video was great because now I understand how they work.

      Hi Dave,

      many thanks for this excellent tutorial.

      You mentioned that usually a square-wave voltage is fed to the input of the circuit (i.e. the primary side of the transformer).

      Here is a beginner’s question: wouldn’t the transformer distort the square-wave signal such that it consists only of positive and negative spikes?

      Here is Cockroft-Walton from Fermilab, just west of here. It generated the massive voltages necessary to power the colliders there. It went dark a year ago or so, after 40 years of service.

      Fundamentals Friday is such a wonderful idea. I really hope you don’t decide to scrap it.

      As someone who is still learning the basics of electronic engineering, your video broke down simple concepts and helped reinforce some of the theory I’ve been learning and showed me some real world examples.
