"smash" in Altium?
« on: June 21, 2016, 10:38:02 am »
 :=\

I tried searching but if this is a repeat, my apologies.

Is there something like smash component in altium? I am working on a schematic and the part name (and value) is clobbering a component next to it. I would like to move them (name and value) somewhere else. Can someone point me to the right direction?

Also, is it the same process in PCB?

Thanks
Korts.

You can always click and drag the designator or comment or other label, wherever you want.  If you want it autopositioned, you can set that as well (double-click the part or the designator, or select multiple designators and do it from the inspector).

Not sure what "clobber" and "smash" mean in this context; example pictures would be helpful. :)

Thanks everyone, looks like I need to do the grunt work of reading and trying myself (what's the other way?).

Tim, "smash" is a very Eagle term. This is where we separate the component from its name/value; therefore we can move name/value anywhere in our workspace. Example of my problem (taken anywhere else from the web to give an example)

You can see the names of some parts are intruding into other parts. In my case, the problem occurs when I am drawing electrical schematics. Thus my original post.

Clobbering? I thought that was regular English...  :D
