Is there an student licence for Altium designer?

Firstly you can register online at altium.com for a time limited full trial licence.

Then contact their Frenchs Forest office in NSW on (02) 9975 7710 & ask for a student's licence. They will send you a form to fill out which will include your uni email address. They will then process it & provide a 12 month student's licence. You go through this same process again in 12 months if you are still studying.

Would this work if your in year 10 ?

Yes, if just one of the subjects you are studying has an electrical/electronic aspect to it. If not, ask one of your teachers to back up the fact that you have a strong interest in electronics.

Deal just with Frenchs Forest & it should work out for you.

Remember you cannot do any commercial work with the student licence, but you do have access to the full version of Altium.

If you no longer qualify for the student licence, you can buy Circuit Studio (Altium's mid-ship product) for a whole lot less money than Altium Designer.

The trial download can be found here:
http://www.circuitstudio.com/

And the price has been reduced to match the special pricing offered to Eagle users to just AUD$683.35 via Element 14:

(Edited: As an Altium Designer customer I was offered this referral link. It may only work if you have an Australian IP Address):

There are a number of Circuit Studio threads running on EEVBlog.com

Just a warning before your pull the trigger on this: education discount or piracy can get you access to expensive software easily, but you will eventually pay for it in the future.
Altium Designer is particular good example that its very good and easy to use user experience make you addict to it and it's hard to switch to another package.
Don't waste your time on a piece of software that you can't use it in the future if you don't have the commitment to buy it in the future.

But you ought to know some commercial PCB CAD package, even if expensive, as your employer will supply that to you.
That's why I'd say it's good to know something pro like OrCAD or Altium as well as free KiCad for homemade projects (that can go commercial, if needed).
Still, knowing the pro package might be more advantageous in the future.

I have updated the link to the special offer in my post above. It now works correctly (at least if you have an Australian IP address).

This offers Circuit Studio for half price from Element 14. Altium have offered it to "encourage" EAGLE users to move away from the new subscription only model.
