Component Body and Board Edge rule
« on: September 22, 2017, 05:21:58 pm »
Morning everyone,
I'd like to make a simple rule that makes sure I don't put a component body within 0.5mm of the board edge for v-scoring.

I tried:
- Board outline clearance with IsComponentBody.
- Clearance with IsComponentBody and (Layer = 'PCB Outline'), Any net

I'm guessing it's because the component body and outline layer I'm using just can't be used to define a collision? But they are both mechanical layers. |O

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can do it with just any layers, because some aren't "applicable" to the rule.

So, you can't do Board Outline Clearance to 3DComponentBody, or Component Clearance to IsBoardOutline or IsKeepOut.

This seems like an ideal application for Rooms.  Set placement for within rooms only, and set the room outline to the desired shape.

Or, place 3D bodies around the outline, representing the v-score tool keepout areas.  Hacky, but it will do full 3D component clearance that way.

Do your footprints include courtyard outlines?  That would probably work well here.
