Text upside down in newer Altium versions
« on: December 01, 2016, 07:33:24 am »
Hi,

This is an interesting problem that I belive was introduced to me with Altium 16 and 17.

Some text strings are set to orientation 180, which make them upside down (at least this was true for a few I checked, I haven't bothered checking all upside down texts I've seen so far).

They were not like this when they were originally created, so I am assuming there is some bug going on here?
Has anyone else noticed this?

(I even noticed this in a schematic symbol, which is really annoying to fix..)

It seems that the setting for "Display strings as rotated" was checked for some reason in newer versions. Maybe it's a new feature.

I am not sure what the feature aims to perform, but very few of my strings are actually rotated so I believe it may not be working as intended.

If anyone finds this problem go into preferences and disable it :)

Can't say I've seen this behavior, but you can change defaults for almost everything editable in new document defaults. Perhaps your settings file got corrupted at some point and so sticks with you through upgrades.

For those finding this thread through web searches:

This may be due to a new default option which displays strings at their rotated angles, instead of restricting them them to 0° or +90° (which was the default in earlier Altium versions).

This can be disabled in Tools -> Preferences -> Schematic -> Graphical Editing -> Display Strings As Rotated

Altium is made in Australia...

Isn't it designed mostly in San Diego nowadays. I think their development team is fairly global, but mostly in San Diego.

**Update**

Browsing LinkedIn seems to say most of their software team is in the Ukraine.
