A product similar to MicroRax

If you have not heard of MicroRax (Like me until today) they are a modular building set like an old style erector set.

I think they are a great idea but the price is a little high for me, and it got me thinking, there has got to be something similar to this out there somewhere.

What I would really like is to find a product that is modular like this, but if I need to do some cutting or drilling I wont be crying that I'm destroying my expensive set.

So, has anyone heard of anything similar to this?

This may not be electronic related but I think it would be great for making larger cases and such.
