Ac Current control
« on: November 06, 2016, 08:47:06 pm »
Hello everyone! I'm wondering of there's a way to control AC current without changing the voltage. I have a MOT welder and i use a triac to control it from 30 to 60v, but i wanted to use it on 60V and just control the current. I kow that a magnetic shunt is the best way but i dont have space for it. Is there a enything?

Thanks!  :-+

To me it sounds like you want to current limit the output, which will change the voltage, but only when the current limit is exceeded.

If not care to explain a little clearer,

As for the how, wiring a bipolar constant current load inline would be one of the simplest ways, (this is an active device). Other than that would be something nastier like applying a dc bias the transformer to control the saturation current.
