The Cheapest place to buy components!

http://aliexpress.com is the cheapest place to buy basic components from Resistors, to capacitors and LED's and breadboards.etc. The pricing is stupid cheap!

However, for advanced tools, I wouldn't buy from here. I have never had a problem with any basic components from AliExpress though.

Well, i guess there's no need to say that some active components (transistors, ICs (especially popular ones)) are very likely to be faulty/fake (real cap for current/voltage will be lowered af). I sure do love to buy stuff from aliexpress, but for components i need to rely on i would rather chose trustworthy retailers. However, you can buy passive components (not electrolytic caps tho) without having a problem using them.

btw, currently i'm waiting for LT3757 to arrive here from aliexpress, will see how it performs

The cheapest places to buy reliable components where you can be reasonably sure they are not counterfeit are Mouser and Digikey.

I tend to buy my basic components from either Tayda or Banggood, this is a great way to get an initial stock of all the things you need to get going and they are really good value.

As an example the following pre-packaged kits are really great value and give you an instant full range of common values:

Just checked out Banggood for a few Atmega 328p to replace the ones I bricked (just having problems setting fuses to use a 16Mhz crystal)
Banggood 40 hits, 2 IC's and 38 development boards. The cheapest of the 2 IC's was $3.21. Mouser has them for $3.37 and Tayda $3.50.
Then checked for an ATTiny, any ATTiny. Banggood 8 results, but not a single IC for sale, just development boards.
Sorry, I will stick to Mouser and Tayda and only wait a few days rather than a few weeks for my parts, plus they have a better selection of parts.

I completely agree with you that if I need a part now or something very specific I will get it from somewhere with next day shipping and exactly what I need but if I am only re-stocking my component draws I will be happy to wait a couple of weeks (if it is cheaper) and get it from China or Thailand.

I tend to re-stock as soon as I run out as if I wait I can guarantee that I will be needing those unavailable 100nF capacitors or 1k resistors in the next project I make. If I then find myself only ordering a small amount, say $5.00, I then tend to browse around and look for other interesting things I can order to try out. I really enjoy getting small kits for radios or amplifiers as I find it fun to put these together and see how they work - I then sometimes incorporate their features in to something I am designing and making myself.

I resolved not by cheap rubbish from China to resell on eBay which is why my prices are slightly higher. It's swings and roundabouts and you get what you pay for.
