Alternative to FFC board to board interconnect.
« on: June 12, 2017, 10:21:38 am »
Hi all.

So currently I am using FFC cables to connect 3 boards together. The main problem is is that these are really hard to mount onto the board as I am soldering these all myself.
The room is so small on my boards that I am having to use 1mm cable which results in 0.5mm pin pitch on my circuit boards.

I am getting some boards made but yields are low.

What are my other options for board to board interconnect when you have very little room, not able to use hard connectors like pin headers etc?

Thanks
Jack,

you could design the three boards with built-in interconnection to each other on a rigid-flex PCB like this:

Jack,
Are you soldering the cables or the connectors?
If the former then you are doing it wrong.
And ho
w do 1mm cables result in 0.5mm pitch?
Youtube channel:Taking wierd stuff apart. Very apart.
Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

Wayyy above my skill level with PCB design.
Looks awesome though!

Conector. Sorry the pitch is 1mm but the pins are 0.5 from the looks of it?
