Amplifiers and Digital Audio Converters.
« on: October 10, 2015, 05:45:43 am »
Hi, I'm new here...I have a few months off from College due to some work, I have never been in the Electronics field but I do intend to make the most out of this fleeting free period.
I'm trying to learn the basics of PCB design and just gain knowledge about Electronics in general, my focus is in the Audio field so I'd like to learn on topics inclined towards that.

I'm here for suggestions for papers, books or any other important information that would help me get started. I'm not studying Electronic Engineering in College, I'm more towards Theoretical Physics.
Anyway, I hope to learn more about Electrical Engineering, self-learn...which I think is possible with a lot of reading.
I have been watching Dave for many years but this my first time here on the Forum.

Thanks.

http://www.diyaudio.com/index.php is one site

Bob Cordell and Doug Self have current books on audio amplifier circuits - websites with some info too - not much from them on digital audio though

both authors books assume fair electronics knowledge

That's a good site for info on audio circuits, but beware... There's also a lot of bullsh*t going on there typical for the "audiophile" with no real technical background. So expect to find technically interesting things but also outrageous claims which are founded on belief rather than reality. For you to sort out which is which.

+1 for diyAudio. I'm a member there too, and it's largely (but not totally) devoid of Audiophoolery.

Whenever diyaudio or a handful of others turn up in the results while searching for something, it's almost guaranteed to be pure audiofoolery.

Just my 2 cents.

that's a mischaracterization - diyAudio has quite a few real engineers, a few authors of respectable books, some commercially successful designers - and many others
the editor and many of the authors for http://linearaudio.net/ are active there

there is some tension from the audiophools and some designers, "gurus" that would like to make threads "safe" from EE or Psychoacoustic based criticism but diyAudio has resisted so far, moderation controls personal attacks not presentation of ideas, facts

many other sites on audio do have explicit censorship of EE, DBT commentary to keep the phools content in their bubble, exchanging cable recipes, echoing/amplifying marketing hype

Hydrogenaudio is the other extreme - you must present ABX statistics for any subjective claim - was closely involved in psychoacoustic lossy codec development

Agreed. There will always be some of the audiophools ANYWHERE there is discussion of audio, but diyAudio really does try to keep it to a minimum.

I would also commend www.groupdiy.com for some more studio gear oriented audio discussion.
