Hi all,

I'm very very unhappy knowing that power supplies and also other electronic equipment are rebranded everywhere. Problem is you don't know what you get, till you get it. And the prices differ very much. I thought that the PL303 of Aim TTi was exclusively their design etc. But it seems not.
Which brand you guys know make their own exclusive high quality products like laboratory power supplies???

I can see that a price difference would be a problem but are you sure there isn't a difference in after sales service?

Good customer service is worth paying a premium for in my opinion so, for anything that's a significant investment I will buy items from companies that have a good reputation rather than the cheapest, even if it's exactly the same product with a different name on.

On the other hand, if it was something that could be regarded as throw away on failure (I very rarely do that) I don't mind shopping for the cheapest possible.

Sorensen sell rebranded TTi power supplies. So what if it get rebranded and sold for more? It's still high quality PSU as well many other equipment. Just buy the brand which cost the least. Often brand is different depending on the country it is sold too.

It's their design and is manufactured in the UK. So what if they agree to sell them rebranded in some other markets, does it reduce the quality in some way?

As if you are blind and google does not exist for you. In most cases you can perfectly figure out what you will get if apply a little bit of effort.

Agreed

But even Keysight rebrands TDK-Lambda's , with their own fw though afaik.

Edit: Btw. i like both TTI & HP/(whatewer name) linear psu's. But mostly TTI's are fanless (a plus)

Sure the price difference would be a problem. Why do you rebrand a component in the first place? I would get angry if I buy something for $ 100 and then a month later I discover that I could have bought the same thing for $25. Only the brandnames are changed.

Because companies don't care what you think about this as long as buyers are ready to shovel the money for the brand name.

Angry at who?
The seller letting you pay what you consider the product to be worth at the time of the sale?
Or yourself for doing market research after spending your money?
Yes that is nasty, paying hundred dollars more for a name.
Yet people do it so the name must be worth something.

Such is life. Many people are willing to pay thousands of dollars more for a name (sometimes, but not necessarily, accompanied by better quality/materials). Behold the luxury products market.

I mailed TTi about it and this is what they had to say:

"The TTi PL and Ametek XEL are the same unit, Ametek rebadge several TTi power supplies as Ametek versions. Either version will be the same
  for you".
