Attach power to vdd or vpp on thermal sensor?
« on: May 16, 2018, 08:56:19 pm »
I have a Grid-Eye 8x8 thermal sensor (AMG8854). Any tutorials I've found using this sensor assume the AdaFruit breakout board (using similar AMG8833). Adafruit labeled their power connection 'VIN'. My Panasonic version of the same chip offers both 'VPP' and 'VDD' connections. What's the difference (i.e. which should I use)? The attached photo shows the Panasonic datasheet info on top and the Adafruit board below.

You could check the schematic for the Adafruit board or even the datasheet for the sensor.
AFAICT, Vpp isn't used...

Typically, Vpp is used for device programming

https://industrial.panasonic.com/cdbs/www-data/pdf/ADI8000/ADI8000C62.pdf

"Make electrical potential of terminals 9 [VDD] and 13 [VPP] the same."

When you have a question about how a chip should be connected, check the datasheet. You should probably be reading datasheets for any chip you're using anyway.

AVDD-PC 20R (not R1 200R in your pic)

My pic is from the Panasonic datasheet. Are you saying there's an error in it?

When you have a question about how a chip should be connected, check the datasheet.

My pic was taken from the Panasonic datasheet, from Digikey, entitled "Infrared Array Sensor Grid-EYE (AMG8854M01), which doesn't include the circuit diagram in your post. Thanks for the additional info.
