Banana Plugs
« on: January 31, 2018, 06:39:04 pm »
Hi everyone,

sorry if this is a silly question, or in the wrong place.  I am trying to repair a piece of test equipment that has banana plugs.  One of the wires has come out and I can't work out if it is possible to take the banana plug apart to reattach the wire or if it is a throwaway item.  It does not appear to have been soldered and I can't see any screws to secure it.  If it was crimped I can't see how the plastic insulator was attached over it  |O

Photo attached - any help appreciated

Poke open that round side plastic piece, you may find a set-screw inside (sometimes called a grub screw).

The elastic plastic jacketing can be pulled back to the wire side. You need to widen it (wiggle it out) where the metal plug comes out of the jacketing.
Here is a photo that might help you:

The metal parts are inserted backwards in this picture, the square part is what grabs onto the plastic part.
He’s like a trained ape. Without the training.
