basic circuit troubleshooting question
« on: May 28, 2017, 03:42:58 pm »
I am troubleshooting an op amp based circuit and I notice that the PS drops on the negative rail from -15 to about -9 volts when I power up the circuit. on the other hand the positive supply stays the same (15V). is there a reason behind this issues? could the op amp be damaged and its loading the PS?

Thank you

Schematics are helpful, but does the PS drop if you pull out the op amp?
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

I was implying by my suggestion that there was indeed a problem to troubleshoot - but no it's not OK at all.  :(

Sometimes just some -Ve supply is needed for an opamp circuit so that its inputs and output can work near 0V, and it doesn't matter too much whether it's -15 or -9 volts. But without the schematic who knows.

.  That took much longer than I thought it would.

I would test the supply on another load. If it drops on that load then there is an issue with your power rail.
