BGA soldering excercises
« on: June 23, 2017, 01:38:18 pm »
Dear All
I would like to teach myself microsoldering of BGA chips. I have never ever done it - though I feel confident in soldering of ordinary SMD components down to 0402.

Could I ask for some recommendations how to train the hand to solder the tiny BGA components? I have come up with the following challenge: take my old smartphone (e.g some old Nokia), remove some components, clear all solder with wick, reball and resolder, see if it still works.

Would you have some better recommendations? I want to avoid buying in general ICs just so that I practice mounting them.

You could Google for 'soldering BGA' and get over 500,000 hits.

You will probably need either a hot air gun or a reflow oven.
