Good grief, unless you're designing something for mass market where every cent matters, just use a
TC442x (or similar) and be done with it. Once the rest of your circuit is working nicely, come back and try a totem pole output if you want to:
a) save $2, or
b) learn about the subtleties of totem-pole driving (I'm not saying this is particularly difficult, but it
is an order of magnitude more difficult than using a TC442x.
