Can the NCP5359 be used with an external charge pump?
« on: September 02, 2012, 05:59:17 pm »
I am trying to make an H-Bridge with n-channel switches for high and low side (as much for the challenge as for the performance boost), and am trying to drive them with the NCP5359, but so far I've been met with limited success. I do not want limited duty-cycle, so I am trying to use it with an external charge pump for the upper FET.  Should I just use a BJT+resistor to drive the high side FET? Or can I use the NCP5359? So far, it seems it is meant for bootstrapped operation only, and is kind of fragile(only tolerates -1v on the switch node pin), and fails by causing shoot-through! Yuck!.

Thanks -- Connor
