Capacitor Type?
« on: October 08, 2013, 03:53:46 pm »
Hi All, going through the parts I have bought so far I came across this electrolytic Cap that I think is non polarized. It's not marked that, and there are no other indications of polarity, but I do see BP down the side. Is this a bi-polarized cap, and if so can it be used just as a non polarized cap?

Thank you. Can you explain what the differences are between a bi-polarized, and non-polarized cap?

Two identical polarized electrolytic capacitors connected together with eg. negative terminations, creating bipolarized capacitor with 50% of capacitance.
I think there is no difference between bipolarized and nonpolarized capacitor,
they simply nonpolar.

Andl,

Maybe a typo on your pat, but there can be an explosive difference between polarized and non-polarized caps.
