Castellation soldermask contamination
« on: June 30, 2016, 01:22:14 pm »
Hey guys i had my first boards made with castellations, and the red soldermask has gone down into the holes and is an issue.  The holes were set to 30 mil which i have had 30 mill holes all day long without this soldermask issue (it completely covers some of them).  The board house came back and said they should be 1.2mm minimum to allow the soldermask to wash out.

Has anyone had this kind of issue before.

You didn't leave exposed pads on the top and bottom??

How did you expect to solder the poor things in the first place?

I did leave the pads.  That is what is strange,  it is only in the barrel of the castellation.

Wow, that's bizarre.  I wonder if they goofed something in the cut-off area?

Is there even ENIG underneath the catellated edges? I once had the problem that they did goof up the electrolytic process for building up copper in the vias and therefore the solder mask did not rinse of properly. Maybe have a scratch and check for copper in the holes

Looks like soldermask phototool may be the culprit
