Charge pump sine wave?
« on: March 07, 2018, 03:35:53 pm »
I'm planning to use a 555 timer to pump a Dickson voltage multiplier with 3 stages.

Ideally, I want a sine wave rather than square. A 3 pole RC filter with the right value parts will do that.

Well it seems to me that we already have 3 caps going to ground, in the Dickson multiplier. Is there any reason why I shouldn't make use of those same caps for a filter? Pop some resistors between them as well as the diodes? Obviously some voltage drop from that, but in this particular case I don't mind.

The multiplier output is DC. Unless I misunderstand the pupose, driving the multiplier with a sine wave would make it less efficient.

Sine waves work fine to drive voltage multipliers and this is often done for lower noise.  I am not sure how you are going to get 2 phase non-overlapping sine waves from a 555 though.  Usually an LC resonate circuit is used to provide efficient sine wave drive.

Villard cascade driven by an H bridge is way easier
for Dickson multiplier,i'd say,use attiny13.
(both will output dc though)
with attiny 13,you can drive both types of multiplyer with great ease and no additional parts(except h bridge driver if your load is high current)

better use a transformer instead.

but what voltage level are you trying to generate?
