Chip Core? (second-hand store parts bin find)
« on: March 18, 2014, 10:39:19 pm »
I found a plastic package that had 49 of these. They look like a chip core. There's no part #s  Just a curious find.  I picked up a handful of some other random parts too. The blue and black are capacitors and the orange is a resistor.
I'll eventually learn to id parts.

The blue caps are something I've not seen before. The black is a ceramic cap but larger than what I've seen. The resistor is also larger than what I'm used to seeing so far.  Is it worth it to buy more of these caps or resistors? They're cheap.

You sure that's meant to be a resistor?

Looks a lot more like a 10pF 6kV ceramic cap to me.

Not sure of anything. Thanks for setting that straight.

Black one is a mica capacitor, not ceramic.

brown disc is capacitor, 10pf 6kv  ,
black thing is mica capacitor, probably 470pF 500v 5% tolerance mil spec  (search for cmo5fd and you'll find some ebay listings like this one for example)
blue one is most likely an inductor in a blue plastic cylinder

The stuff in the first picture... to unclear to tell you anything.  Post some proper pictures if you want proper answers.

Interesting, mica has some amazing properties.

Haha!  Not looking for answers just a curious find, as I said. No one's refuted my claim that it's a chip core so apparently there's enough detail to agree on that much. Do you have another idea of what it might be?

Anyone's guess what the dies are; if you can take a photomicrograph you may find more clues.

Offhand I would guess the blue thing is an inductor, but you'd want to measure either way.

The ceramic cap is probably 100pF; I don't know that I've seen caps with an actual 1-0-0 code, as such.  They usually omit the multiplier under 100pF.

Just knowing that they are dies is good enough for me. It was a curiosity as they don't carry many electronics parts.

It seems to have a vent on the side which made me think capacitor. Would an inductor be vented and sealed?
At first glance it looks like it could be a mold artifact but closer look and it is a hole.

Maybe an old part?

Now I'll try to measure them.
