My co-worker just explained an issue to me that his christmas lights (leds) were causing his garage door opener to not work.

What would be the reason? I have some electronics understanding, so I can work with led's and such with no issues. However, the driver circuit for these lights must have some circuitry that can produce interference in the 300MHz range.

The only reason I can think of is a switching type of behavior in the driver circuit that may be making noise in that range.

If I were to buy LED lights, how can I know up front if they are noisy like this? Why would this be allowed to happen in the market? How could I shield the light if I do end up in this situation?

Thoughts?

 and Thanks!

Are both the LEDs and garage door opener on the same electrical outlet?
If so then it might be conducted interference instead of radiated EMI.

connect the lights with a different power outlet. maybe try to isolate the LED driver with a aluminium foil or put it in a tin :-//
