Class AB Amp Power Efficiency - How to calculate?
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:47:29 pm »
Hi
I have a HW question to calculate power efficiency - Please help me
Quote
3.   A CMOS Power Amplifier operates at class AB. The conduction Angle is 135?. The Vds breakdown voltage (the highest voltage achievable)=3.3V and 10mA is set to be the highest current allowed. The gain of this amplifier is 12dB. The overdrive (Vdsat - the min voltage for saturation region) is equal .4V
a.   What is the Efficiency Pout/Pin in this conduction angle if Vdsat =0V?
b.   What is the max power achievable if Vdsat =0V?
c.   What is the PAE of this amplifier if Vdsat =0V?
d.   What is the Efficiency Pout/Pin in this conduction angle if Vdsat =.4V?
e.   What is the max power achievable if Vdsat =.4V?
f.   What is the PAE of this amplifier if Vdsat =.4V?

No idea but the way this is worded sounds like a course work or exam question - if so, although I'm sure there are lots of people here who can answer it for you, you will probably get more benefit by working out the answers yourself.

Apologies if this is not the case
