Coated wire insulation, measured 5-10MOhm ?
« on: March 07, 2017, 05:17:00 am »
I have a roll of 24g wire and checked to see if it was coated/insulated as hoped, and it measured around 4,5 or 10 MegaOhms or something on that order, just with the probes right next to each other. And thats on a brand new quality DMM

I wanted to use it for making inductors/RF coils/etc. Is that usable for that if its wound touching itself ? Whats the typical resistance of coated wire ?

Are you sure because it will normally be out of range. Official specs. for open circuit is in Gohm range..being at least 1Gohm?

Anyway just wind yourself an inductor and measure it,if it is spot on then you have something. ;)
