Communicate with an Webcam Chip?
« on: December 14, 2016, 02:49:57 pm »
Hi
My USB Webcam have an OV5640 Chip onboard.

It say:
Quote from: PDF
2.6 SCCB interface
The Serial Camera Control Bus (SCCB) interface controls the image sensor operation. Refer to the OmniVision
Technologies Serial Camera Control Bus (SCCB) Specification for detailed usage of the serial control port.
Group write is supported in order to update a group of registers in the same frame. These registers are guaranteed to
be written prior to the internal latch at the frame boundary.
The OV5640 supports up to four groups. These groups share 1 KB RAM and the size of each group is programmable by
adjusting the start address. The group hold start addresses range from 0x40 to 0x7F, where the unit is 16 bytes.
So any way to use that?
THX!

I have searched around on the web and it looks like you can use a standard I2C bus on a microcontroller to communicate with a SCCB interface.

Here is a link to to the application note of the SCCB: http://www.ovt.com/download_document.php?type=document&DID=63

and I have came across this implementation: http://embeddedprogrammer.blogspot.co.za/2012/07/hacking-ov7670-camera-module-sccb-cheat.html

Hope this gives you some where to start.

What are you trying to do with the camera? The SCCB interface - which is I2C compatible at least from my experience - is only used to set up the config registers in the camera (resolution, format, timings, etc). The OV5640 and other similar camera modules also have a parallel interface (or MIPI CSI-2, a high speed serial interface) which is used to transfer image data.

I want play arround and see and learn what is possible to do.
And or play with IR (whats why I got the Cam without an IR Filter).

And I want to turn the fffuuhhinngg LED off by Software. I hate LED on a Cam. Maybe its possible to turn it off soon so in some days I travel arround and I will get some live stream with the firework on 31.12.

Is there any way to control the Camera Chip over USB?

Thanks!
