Connector for temporary hook-up to board pin holes?

Which connector can I use to temporary connect to the unpopulated pin holes of a board?

I have a some boards (random breakout modules, arduino mini pro, weemo D1 mini) that I would like to experiment with without soldering the pins on them. Are there connectors that I can connect to their pin holes and later remove? I tried using square dupont male collectors but they don't make a reliable contact. (<- is that correct English?)

Are there connectors that somehow "grab" the hole pin/via and can later be released?

Dupont pins have a good contact, But must be reasonable quality DuPont , like this gold ones, but must be soldered, If you want to be solderless, be prepared for trouble, that is not a good decision for prototypes, the uniquepossible use of a solder less connector is on production  and for that have pogo pins

If the holes are plated through, and the holes and connector pins fit tight enough, then maybe. It's actually not likely to work most of the time. You're probably going to have to solder something, somewhere.

Well, if you don't mind using some force you can use pogo pins, but that is probably not what you want.

There are also snap in pins/test points that can be forced into the board and stay there and later be forced out. Such as this:

Note that they are not officially intended for removal, but can be abused in that sort of way. A hack of sorts.

Try googling "press fit pin header". You might see what you want. Finding it for purchase somewhere might be another challenge.
