Coupling a signal from one wire to another
« on: September 21, 2015, 05:14:15 pm »
Hello all,

I working on some testing for EMI susceptibility.  I have an input(sensor) wire that I wish to couple a signal onto.  I have a function generator that I want to use to apply different frequencies to the system.

I was going to take the sensor wire and wrap it around a wire with the signal from the function generator.  My question is how should I terminate the function generator?  Should I add a 50 ohm to the end of the function generator signal?   Or would just shorting the ends of the function generator work the best?

A final note, this is not a very quantitative test so I'm not really looking for the perfect solution, just something that I can get working semi-quickly.

Any other suggests also welcome.

Thank you!

Try it both ways. The amount of coupling will depend on many variables like frequency, number of turns ...
