Current limiting from my UPS battery

I have made a single transistor flyback driver.. and looking for the best power source for hot arcs.
I've found a battery from my old UPS(about:600VA) but a direct connection would kill my transistor.

Any ideas to limit the current to the highest safe zone..?(I WANT HOT ARCS)

Forgot to mention; it's a 2N3055 transistor.
