Decoupler for my function generator?!
« on: March 07, 2015, 07:55:03 pm »
Hello guys!

I have made a measurement with my amplifier. You can see it in the picture below. On the left it’s ok! But on the right it’s a “problem”.  I have figured it out by accident.  :palm:

Fortunately, nothing is happened because there is a protection in the amp!  :-BROKE

So my question is how can I protect my devices? What can I do to make my function generator floating? So I want to decouple the generator. What is a good decoupler or ground loop isolator for the output? It is generally possible?

If it's just audio, you could use an audio isolation transformer.

And isolation transformer, which we discussed in your other thread Safety first with oscilloscope & Co., would prevent that problem.
And you told us you've watched “How NOT to blow up your Oscilloscope”!!! Or did someone not pay attention to what Dave was saying?!

Yeahh,

I have seen it. But the generator was out of my mind. So the amp itself has no mains earth connection. And so the DUT was not mains earth referenced. But I have made a new one over the generator and so I have closed the circuit.   |O

So, what kind of audio isolation transformer can I use? Or is there any kind of decoupler integrated in a BNC adapter?
So you can learn, read, watch and listen to any kind of electronic stuff, but you will never forger a mistake made by yourself.
I hope so. :phew:

Is this a possible way?

http://www.amazon.com/Gino-Female-Coaxial-Ground-Isolator/dp/B0038O9R86

I search this kind of ground loop isolator with input/output resistance of 50 ohm. Or can I make one by myself? What I need for this?

I'd use something like this:
http://www.hammondmfg.com/560.htm

for audio isolation.
It helps that I have some on my parts shelf!
