Designing a USB stick?
« on: September 22, 2016, 04:46:15 pm »
I want for fun and giggles to design and make my own USB memory stick.

I opened up a stick I already had and basically all there is to it is a memory chip and a USB interface chip.

The interface chip was an Innostor IS902 and the memory something made by Toshiba. Googling the part names didn't yield any datasheet. I went to the Innostor website but there's nowhere to download a datasheet. Apparently they sell directly to manufacturers?

So I would like some guidance on what parts I could use that are readily available on Digikey, Mouser or TME.

Any microcontroller with USB and EMC. If you buy a USB Flash Controller there is a chance it's a special purpose 8051 controller

I was searching with the wrong terms, that's why I couldn't find any results. So "USB Flash Controller" is the magic phrase  :-+

I see these controllers have quite a lot of logic in them. I was under the impression that they were quite dumb.

Thanks! I'll start a new topic in Projects... to show my progress.
