discrete JFET logic
« on: December 09, 2016, 05:01:09 pm »
Just for fun, I've been trying to make a discrete JFET inverter (NOT gate).

I know I can just take a simple common source amplifier and do it that way.

I just want to make sure I understand one particular thing. I think I do, but just looking for confirmation.

If I have a 5 volt single sided supply, I won't be able to make a textbook complimentary inverter out of JFETs, right?  And specifically it won't work because all JFETs are depletion mode devices, thus I will never be able to turn the n-channel JFET off. Is this correct?

Both Jfets will not be able to be turned off.
