What program to view PCB files?
« on: June 29, 2013, 12:29:55 am »
I'm looking for a free program to view some PCB files (gerber?) so I can get the exact location of some of the holes. I'm using a windows PC, and I've downloaded a few online (including KiCAD) but it doesn't seem to work properly.

Which program should I use to just to get the drill hole locations on these PCBs? Are there any tutorials anywhere on how to use these programs or loading the files?

Is this a drills file? Have you opened it in a text editor?

There are several free gerber viewers out there. I use the commercial version of Pentalogix ViewMate but there is a free edition as well. check www.pentalogix.com

Have a look at this site.
http://www.homediystuff.com/etching-diy-pcb-printed-circuitt-boards/

They have a section recommending some of the free PCB design software available.

Look for "Computer Design Software Available" just down the page a bit (before the Step 1 of their PCB making guide).
Lots of options....
