Double sided board, ground pour on both sides or ground/vcc?
« on: November 06, 2010, 05:05:20 pm »
What's better: using a ground pour on both sides of the board, and then routing Vcc intelligently or just pouring the top VCC and bottom GND?

Ground on both sides, routing Vdd intelligently, paying attention to ground currents with respect to Vdd currents, and paying attention to separating noisy grounds/voltages from sensitive areas of the board.

(In other words, we can't really answer this question.)

Hi,

From my experience pour ground on both sides usually is the standard and route power (Vcc or Vdd) with larger width depending on the current demand. Keep digital and analog ground on a common spot on the board (star ground) if your on mixed signal designs, if possible don't route power traces near analog signals. Also don't route in-parallel traces with high speed tracks, cross it instead under/over the board if it is unavoidable.

There is no right answer - depends entirely on the requirements of your design.

Just my clues, though :)
