Whats the component in my Dremal 800.
« on: June 18, 2013, 12:32:38 pm »
I am looking for a replacement part. From what I can gather its a schottky diode. But further googling has lead me to believe its possibly a MOSFET with out the gate connected and using the parasitic diode inherent in MOSFETS. Anyone else have any ideas as to what it is as mine has blown off and I have replaced the MOSFET but the until is no where nearly as powerful.  Would this diode improve performance ? I am thinking the B-EMF from the motor is shuting the MOSFET down or the MOSFET I replaced the original with may not be up to spec. I think the replacement was a IRZ44

Anyone got some ideas.

The first picture shows the part circled in red.
the other picture shows the original driver MOSFET.

PS These pictures are from the following website http://messageboard.dremel.com/Topic5273-28-1.aspx

Not able to tell you the exact replacement or actual number ! funny Chinese numbers; most likely a standard IRF840 MOSFET would do,
or higher current ?... seeing they have gone to SMD without heat-sink, leads me to think it's not much more than a standard device.

Pin-outs might be an issue, best to back engineer motor to device for information... the three pins are used, centre tag I expect is the d=drain, due the device base soldered directly onto the PCB.

UPDATE: it's a... N-CHANNEL 30V - 0.0034 ohm - 80A TO-220 STripFET POWER MOSFET

I know the main TO220 mosfet is a STP80NF03L, I can get a replacement however the circled device looks like some sort of mosfet used as a diode. Unless its actually a double package schottky diode?

Okay Sorry  :palm: I missed the detail, and now see what your getting at; well sadly I have no answer to this ? the numbers on the device don't provide any useful info, to help you.
