driving several high power LED
« on: January 28, 2015, 04:26:22 pm »
Hello everyone,

 I have a project with 4 LED, after some searching on my usual supplier(mouser), I found just what I wanted, the CREE CXA1512-0000-000N00M40E5, problem is, they are only available with the 37v, the 18v ones are out of stock.

I choose this model because of size/lumens/angle and because I allready have the expensive connector with heat sink for it so I'll stick with it.

Problem is the usual driving method was ONE switched managed boost converter --> FOUR switch managed buck constant current, but my design does not reach 37v on the output.. so I need a new one..

I want sugestions for two things, first, are there any options to this :

[SM BOOST CONVERTER]  (from 11v~14v to 40volts out 2AMPS )
 --> [SM BUCK CONSTANT CURRENT]  --> LED (must reach 350mA @ 37v )
 --> [SM BUCK CONSTANT CURRENT]  --> LED (must reach 350mA @ 37v )
 --> [SM BUCK CONSTANT CURRENT]  --> LED (must reach 350mA @ 37v )
 --> [SM BUCK CONSTANT CURRENT]  --> LED (must reach 350mA @ 37v )

sugestions for the boost and constant current regulators, many thanks

Not to skip your question, but did you try calling and ask when they are in stock?
The part number you gave is for 37V unit. Apparently no one has 18V unit.

The Meanwell LDD units are perfect for a drop-in design like this.

Otherwise, you need a buck and/or boost constant current controller. At 350mA there are a ton of options (NCP3066?)
Software by day, hardware by night; blueAcro.com
