« on: October 20, 2015, 08:27:34 pm »
Hi EEV Forum!
Do I need a shunt resistor for this ammeter?
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/140891198308

Thanks!

I don't think so, but with that sort of "ingrish" anything is possible.

If it was an old moving coil meter with a fixed scale of 0-5A it could be that it needs an external shunt, but this digital one advertised as 0-5A should have a shunt already, otherwise it would not be 0-5A but a volt meter. But like Simon says (no pun intended) you can expect anything from these China sellers.

Here is another one that show more on the wiring

Yours looks like it has two wires but must have four like this one, notice the shunt on the back.  I suggest you buy one that has more details like this 3 amp model:

generally for these small amp meters, you need a shunt for modules that measure > 10A
under 10A no need for a shunt, it's already implemented in the module
