Electronic load as current limiter
« on: January 16, 2018, 01:52:46 pm »
Can I use my electronic load to limit the current in a circuit in case something goes wrong by connecting it in series with the load circuit??

Please provide more information.

What electronic load?

What device?

Electronic current limiting should not be used in place of a fuse or proper circuit breaker.

Lacking any further detail, and given the considerations above -- probably yes.

That's essentially what my last gadget does,
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/finished-current-limiting-breaker/msg1373360/#msg1373360
with an added time-out feature so that it opens the circuit eventually.

But it's made for bidirectional operation (doesn't matter which way you connect it up), has protective devices to control overcurrent and overvoltage, and filtering (partly for operation, but also so it doesn't mind what the circuit around it is doing).

An electronic load might be missing some of these features, might not appreciate carrying reverse current or overvoltage, might not respond that fast (or responds too fast and becomes unstable on some loads), etc.

As electronic load I am using the IT8211 and as supply I am using a 11.1v lithium battery pack

My load should not pass any reverse current through the electronic load and i will makes sure to not reverse the connections of the electronic load ,Tanks
