Equipment for beginner
« on: July 25, 2013, 11:20:06 am »
Hi, I just took some training doing both JTAG and BGA Chip-off to extract data personal devices (cell phones, pda, voice recorders etc).  I'd like to setup a little home lab to get more practice. Keeping in mind that this is out of my pocket and not for business purposes, I'd like to get mid to good quality devices not expensive commercial equipment. The gear we used in training was a bit blah. I know there are better options out there.  Here's what I'm looking for and what I'm thinking of so far.

  • Soldering Iron -  Hakko 888D
  • Hot air blower -  ???
  • Preheating station - Aoyue 853A (or one of the variants ++ )
  • DC Power supply (I will be powering cell phones, tablets etc, small electronics) - ???
  • Heat gun (max 1000 deg F)  - Wagner HT1000

That's it for now.  I may want to get a fancy microscope as well but I can live w/o that for now.

One bonus thought, if any of the gear is dual voltage that be great. I'm in the US but may end up dragging all this gear to Australia.  If not, then US compatible is fine.
