Fake MOSFET?
« on: September 25, 2016, 03:25:01 am »
I recently got some components from eBay and most of them have turned out to work fine. I have had problems with some of the MOSFETs however, with shorts between the source and drain and them not being able to handle even a few amps.

I went a bit medieval on some of the dead ones and a (dead) genuine IPD50N03S2-07 (marked PN0307) for comparison. The dies inside the eBay MOSFETs are tiny in comparison to the genuine PN0307, even when specs look similar. Have I been sold fakes, or is this some fancy new small process?

ebay is full of fakes. Actually many of the parts which are easy to counterfeit are nearly impossible to buy genuine.

Rod Elliott's take: http://sound.whsites.net/counterfeit.htm

Power devices seem particular favorites of these criminals.

They are fake.  File for claim and leave a negative feedback.  Do not be guided by the seller even he has 99.98% good rating.  I gave the benefits of doubts to polita (can't remember the exact ID now) many years back.  Lost 100USD, sent back and they claimed non-receipt and I missed the feedback window.  Ebay and paypal walked out on me.
The best thing that happened was now I buy direct from China.
