Fluke 8050a question
« on: June 27, 2013, 12:54:43 pm »
Hi everyone,

I managed to score a Fluke 8050a (with leads, new battery and replacement screen) but I was wondering about the following:

When I set it on 200mv I seen some fluctuation on the voltage measured with *no* leads inserted. As in it hovers around the 0 volt mark without ever really settling on it. Is that normal? I see some fluctuation as I start it on the other measurement ranges but those soon settle at 0.000 (for example). I also see some movement when I physicalle move the unit while it's on.

All normal behavior I guess? I've only used a 10$ multimeter until now so...yea. A bit new to higher grade equipment ;)

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Noldir,

Yes, it’s normal.
DMM’s high impedance input allows it to pickup and measure “noise” in the 200mV range.

Try to connect the leads and short the probes together – The DMM should show 0.000 in that range.
