Simple project for re-use some old GSM phones into something useful ... :)
It's as simple as can be, though if you have any questions, you are welcome!

Regards,
Gregor

Sounds like a nice idea.  I'm assuming the phone provider lets it be 'receive only'  if you don't bother paying for any credit/contract/etc?  Otherwise it might end up being more expensive than you think.

True, we have possibility (with one operator only!) for a 1 EUR/year contract. Others and prepaid options are far more expensive ... :(

1 euro per year sounds very nice.  Hopefully nothing more complicated will crop up.

Next challenge: make a receiver tuned to the EM patterns of your engine's firing sequence during idle.

Funny, I did the opposite with an old Motorola phone to make a cheap cellular alarm monitor. Simply used the phone with the car charger and no battery, powered from 12V, and a simple one shot to press the call button when the siren went off. Put a small amount of PAYG money in the phone and left it at that. It never was used other than in test, but worked each time.

Good to see this circuit being used for good and not evil.
