Hacking a novelty cup?
« on: June 26, 2017, 02:50:08 am »
Hi,

I got a cup at a concert I went to yesterday. It had some lights on the bottom that lit up, flashed, at different times in the concert. I want to figure out how to control it myself if possible, but I haven't been able to find any information on the chips on the board.

I have noticed that removing/replacing the battery makes all the LEDs flash three times. I'm guessing its some sort of startup self-check.

I've attached photographs to this post. The numbers on the wireless chip are:

219A
A801
653

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

It is bluetooth according to the website (buzzconnect.io) I think

A search for 219A and bluetooth brings this up
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/LED-bluetooth-RGB-controller-DC12-24V-input-2A-3CH-output/701799_32271275419.html

Long shot but maybe the app works.

The 8 pin chip I would guess as a PIC12

The 8 pin chip has a Holtek logo on it and you can clearly read HT48**2. So it is most likely a cheap Holtek 8bit microcontroller.

Based on the antenna size it doesn't look like 2.4GHz to me, more like 315/433MHz.
I couldn't find anything for that markings, but the module reminds me of a RFM69.

It is not BlueTooth. That is a CMT2219A.

The MCU is a Holtek HT48 series (can't read exact part) --- likely OTP.
