100C? What type of solder are you using? Regular 63/37 or 60/40 solder melts at 183C, lead-free is often 200+. That sounds like either your soldering station is severely decalibrated or you are using ultra-low-temperature solder.

Yeah, note that is is super easy to decalibrate the FX-888D:

I did it to mine the day I got it.
(PS - my progs are set for 270, 300, 350, 400 and 450.  Normal is 300 or 270 for delicate small stuff using Pb solders.)

Oh crap, I probably did do that.  I was trying to figure out how to set it from F to C and just playing around.   I ended up RTFMing again and found how and did it though so it's set now.  The only thing I have that can read such temps is a IR gun but that is probably not a good tool for that as mentioned in that thread.  I do have temp sensors around the house (ds18s20) for my hvac, but pretty sure I'd melt them.  :scared:

Edit: Ok so I did a factory reset, I'm good now!  Starts to melt solder at 170, close enough.

Desoldering parts from multilayer PCBs can be a bitch, and even having the best soldering station in the world won't help much.

In this video (from 14:30) I am desoldering a capacitor and a PCI express port using a JBC CD-B station, deliberately set at a low temp, around 320C.

I've found that this is one of the fastest and least invasive desoldering techniques (I believe the best is using Chipquick, but that's kinda expensive).

The OP should do this too

Sure you didn't purchase a desoldering station by mistake... they really suck...

maybe the temp you set is in Fahrenheit ? I had this issue with my Hakko and was really puzzled when I saw 350 degrees on display of the unit and wasn't able to melt a solder. Once I switched it to Celsius all make sense to me now. (I'm a metric guy and don't get imperial system even though i use it occasionally). Read the manual on how to change the units
