Sean is the owner of the business and the sysop.

http://www.mastechpowersupply.com/contact-us/info_2.html

S/H price will vary, so speak to him via email.  The reason for the price is the power supplies are heavy, at least #10.

No probes.

Whos sean? Whats his email?

wow shipping is $20

so the final price on the site is $69.99 with shipping

also does this power supply ship with the probes?

They have them for sale also on the same site, and it probably will not have any more added S&H.  Mostly commonly used are banana to alligators.  Split ring or ring connector to alligators also work.

I buy them in bulk from eBay for $1 each or less, I think the Mastech site charges $5-10 each but they are already pre-selected for maximum amperage.  If you know how to buy wire sizes for current capacity, generic eBay cables work, if not stick to Mastech.  Power cables are very low tech.

Awesome, please review it for us when you get it, from the ordering process from Mastech to the product you get.  Hope you enjoy it.

I should get this psu on monday, now because it is only 3 amps, should I build a bench power supply from an atx psu in case I need higher amps? Is it worth it?

I've not yet had a reason to use 1A on a continuous basis other than doing checks on power resistors.  I typically work in the 500mA +/- 250mA.

So i got the Mastech HY1503D and welll well

I got the unit on friday.. Opened the box, and when i plug the probes the probe's holder slide back, opened the case and found out that the board that goes behind the probes holder was broken (see picture) at that moment i sent an email to Sean (i guess the owner of mastech) he didnt reply... I called him, and he said " im not at the office right now" ok...

Saturday passed, sunday night, i see Sean connected in gmail chat, i asked him again on what we can do... He sent me an email, with an address for me to send the item back (the psu is heavy and costed $40, shipping back of it would be about $30) i got a bit mad and asked him for a return shipping label... he said "im going to file a complain with fedex so they can pick it up" so i say "so you are going to send me the replacement one tomorrow while i wait for the fedex guy?" he said NO when we get the defective unit ill send you the replacement one.... all i said was wow (so i waited 5 days for this to get from CA to FL, so 5 days to go back to him, and 5 more to go back to me :) 15 days nice!) .. great customer service... so i asked when will fedex come pick this up? he disconected...

Today i sent him an email early on the morning asking the same thing... no answer.. I sent another email around noon time.. and no answer..

Great customer service ;) ill update back when i know something

I can't see your photo very well but after resizing it and fixing the gamma, it looks like the PCB here is fractured, see arrow.

Sorry to see this and hear of your hassles.  Generally, I would repair this myself rather than ship it back, because the unit is low cost and the shipping is expensive.  But you need to do what you need to do.

Just to be fair, it's ok for the seller to wait until your package is received to ship you a replacement. You shouldn't take this out on the seller as it is the wise move.

It would have been nice for the seller to offer send out another order to be credited back when the bad one was returned.

Agree but, the part that is not fair IMO is that he said that he was going to file the claim with fedex for them to come pick the box up... I have sent multiple emails to the seller and no answer... So as right now i dont know if that claim will take 1-2 days or 15-30 days....

Yes, I agree, but consider find any other vendor that can sell the same or similar for the price you bought it and whether you can get the service you are looking for.  Its not an excuse for Mastech business action, but cheap comes with its downside.

When I buy electronics  from eBay, many from China, I can pay $2 each, shipping and handling included, even as high as $10, but its impossible for me to ship back and recoup my costs if the device is a dud.

Even big ticket items like power supplies and meters, I bought recently one for $10 that cost $30 to ship that can generate 3kV, it just isn't worth shipping back, new or old.

One thing to can try is call Fedex and ask for what to do with damage goods what one can say is due to their shipping, see what they say and how long it will take.  You can also let Mastech know you are reviewing his performance on a forum, and he knows what that can mean to future sales.

Been doing a little research about mastechpowersupply.com....

It looks like it's really acifica.com which sells motorcycle trunks,
hard saddlebags, and Mastech power supplies.  What a
combination!

They also run http://www.rigoloscilloscope.com/ and say they
are an authorized Rigol distributor.  Checked out the Rigol function
generators and each and every model says in stock Qty 20.  So
maybe the stock level isn't quite accurate as a previous poster
suggested.

I'm guessing it's a one person operation importing the Mastech
gear?  Certainly if you look up the contact address, you get a house
in San Jose :-)

I haven't bought from them, but have made some email inquiries about
schematics which were answered promptly by Sean.

never got an email from sean, but saw him last night in gmail chat, and asked him one more time, he told me that he filled the claim with fedex, i asked when they will pick up the package and he said that he didnt know that it takes few days... i asked if there was a way to find the exact day, he said no... So i guess ill just wait until fedex decides to come to my house...

Don't wait until Fedex makes a move. All carriers have a deadline until you have to report damaged goods. Make sure that deadline doesn't expire while you wait for something, something that might never happen, because someone forgot to ...

Called fedex, and they told me that there was a claim but no pick up appointment, so i made the appointment, they told me that the box will be picked up tomorrow, then delivered to a check location, where will be 2-5 days, then it will be sent to the sender via ground.. Woot :) more days

This is good to hear; if you don't have to pay shipping, it's worth exchanging.

You can read more about my experiences and who Sean is on my thread here:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=686.msg9661#msg9661

It includes the other stores in eBay, reviews of his responses to problems with folks at RC Groups, and others.  If you get the address of the store, you can google it and get a picture of a house in a neighborhood in CA.  It includes slburris many good comments and queries too.

This is great news.  Hopefully it will have a happy ending, and you'll have a fixed new PSU.

Aside from the break, what did you think of the rest of the unit's build quality?

You are doing well for a newbie, a great scope, and a free exchange on S&H, so hopefully it all works out well in the end.
