HEEEEEEEEEEELP! atmega8a instad of 328p
« on: May 22, 2017, 10:27:09 pm »
Hi
I order the smd version of atmega 328p and soldered it on (my first time for SMD) and it turns out its a atmega8a :palm: . The 328 has more memory and features but looks like the pinout is the same.
I need all of them as digital pins. Is there any way to get the bootloader on to it? Is there an arduino that uses this chip?
Or should I desolder it and but the 328p?  :-//  :(
If it helps I'm just connecting and lcd and 4x4 keypad to it.
Thanks In advance.

I haven't tried it due to no ATmega8A here, but the current arduino IDE still lists Arduino NG board with an additional option for processor choice as AT168 or ATmega8. So you might well be able to burn the bootloader within the arduino IDE using a hardware programmer and selecting NG board with mega8 as the processor, worth a try as it's quick to find out.
