help inserting an image within a post

 how do you insert a picture on a post when I click on the button all that comes is [img][/img

Add as attachment and then set the "Return to topic" flag. When you are back there copy the image URL and press edit, then put in the image tags, click in the middle of them and paste the URL to the forum image. Then click update and there it is.

Other method is to use something like Flickr and paste the BBcode of the image into the post window. example below from my Flickr page.

uh the simple answer is that the function is for linking to an image not uploading it. As suggested you could link in an image you uploaded to the forum, but you can link in from other sites
