Help identifying motor + hookup how-to?
« on: March 18, 2015, 07:16:50 pm »
Hello,

I'm just getting started with robotics and have some experience building small line follower robots. I recently picked up a motor for free and would like some help:
- Identifying what type of motor it is (stepper/brushed dc/other)?
- A link to an online video or tutorial showing how to hook this type of motor up, preferable via an Arduino for some control.

A picture of the motor specs is linked here: http://postimg.org/image/z8itwpgcb/f188afb9/

Thank you!

It looks like an AC motor.

How many wires are coming out from the motor (or terminal screws).

Do you know if it is from a washing machine or dryer?

From the label you can realize that is an AC motor 110v. And that it uses a capacitor of 20uF so it is an induction motor. Also called "squirrel cage" type. Its speed depends almost entirely on the line frequency. Rpms are shown for 50 and 60 Hz.
It would have at least 3 wires where you must connect line, neutral and the capacitor.
