Help identifying what type of power supply I have?
« on: February 13, 2014, 02:32:53 pm »
Hi guys,

I recently bought some metal electrical enclosures at auction for a cnc milling machine project I had in mind. I was expecting them to be empty but I found some goodies inside, there was one box however that has me stumped as to what it contains. Here are some photos for reference.

It looks like some sort of switching power supply?
Any ideas as to what it is used for and can I use it as a bench power supply?

Cheers
GAvin

Why would you need to have a fibre optic in and out port on a PSU? Would this be controlled with an external computer?

I get the feeling that this is for HV, either monitoring or control... Fiber provides excellent galvanic isolation.

I found this, maybe it's related: http://www.nsn-now.com/Indexing/ViewDetail.aspx?QString=6130998563989
I also found the manufacturer website: http://www.alstom.com/
Since it's an italian company I could help with the language since I'm italian.

Sorry Fabiusp98, Alstom is a multinational corporation.
They bought SABIEM years ago, so they have a manufacturing branch here in Italy, where they build railroad equipment.
For what I see, the boards in the photographs are not made in Italy. Maybe it was used in a wind generator...
