Title: Help with identifying connector

Hi folks
I work teaching pre-university physics in the Uk and have students building a series of projects such as lightning detectors, earth field magnetometers etc. These will be mounted in metal enclusres and I want some high quality fitting to feed in/out analog data cables via screw in connectors such as that in the attached picture. can anyone tell me what the general name is for this type of connector or make recommendation as to other rugged and shielded types.

For signal you can try the usual oscilloscope coaxial cables, you can also use XLR audio connectors or vga like d-subminiature connectors.

Looks like an industrial sensor connector, google M8 or M12 connector.

a google search starting with "Panel Mount" is a good start.

then usually the amount of pins....

for example, i searched Google for "panel mount 4 pin connector"

and come up with this:

however, XLR connectors are nice, and you can get a 5 pin one quite cheap too!
google "5 pin xlr panel mount"

Also the cable is usally for mic's and audio stuff, so is shielded quite nicely for sensor data!(should you decide you CBA to make your own cables! lol)

This looks like an M8 connector.  In my experience, these do not take much abuse.

Look at larger industrial M12 connectors.  They are common in industry and are available with up to 8 or 9 pins as I recall.  Turck is a major supplier but they are made by many companies.  Pre-built cables are relatively cheap...less than $10.
